CPR & AED Training

CPR & AED TRAINING
This course teaches the essential skills required by an AED operator and gives students the confidence to know what to do in this kind of emergency. No previous first aid knowledge is necessary to attend an AED course.

AEDs are sophisticated, reliable, safe, computerised devices that deliver electric shocks to victims of cardiac arrest. In the UK approximately 30,000 people sustain cardiac arrest outside hospital and are treated by emergency medical services.

The scientific evidence to support early defibrillation is overwhelming; the delay from collapse to delivery of the first shock is the single most important determinant of survival. If defibrillation is delivered promptly, survival rates as high as 75% have been reported.  The chances of successful defibrillation decline at a rate of about 10% with each minute of delay. (Resuscitation Council UK)
I personally think AED’s should be in all public buildings.

Fire extinguishers have to be by law, sadly Defibs do not. Over 100,000 people die each year due to sudden cardiac arrest….I wonder how many of those could have been saved with an onsite AED. If you can deliver the first shock within 3 minutes to a casualty in out of hospital cardiac arrest the survival rates are much improved. Does your workplace, school, college have one?
